Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a round cake pan.

Prepare the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add the Butter

Cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the milk, water, and vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

Bake the Johnny Cake

Pour the dough into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve
